ABS Keycaps VS PBT Keycaps

PBT VS ABS KeycapsMaterial of Keycaps tend to be made from ABS (acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) or PBT (polybutylene terephthalate), two different types of plastic Cheaper ABS keycaps are tend to thinner and sound louder when I type; they’re also prone to wear and to become smooth and shiny with use. Keycaps made of PBT tend to be more expensive but are thicker and more durable for long use.

Double Shot keycaps

Double-shot keycaps

Double-shot keycaps are a type of keycap used in mechanical keyboards. They are designed to enhance the durability and aesthetics of the keycap legends by using a special molding process.

  1. Durability: Because the legends are a separate layer of plastic, they won’t wear off over time, even with heavy usage.

  2. Aesthetic Appeal: The two-layer construction allows for vibrant and long-lasting keycap legends, providing a visually pleasing appearance.

  3. Backlighting: Double-shot keycaps are popular in backlit mechanical keyboards because the translucent legends allow LED or RGB lighting to shine through, creating a visually striking effect.

Double-shot keycaps are often found in high-quality mechanical keyboards and are favored by enthusiasts and gamers for their combination of aesthetics, durability, and backlighting compatibility.

Triple Shot keycaps

Trippleshot-keycap

Different keycap manufacturers offer various designs, colors, and themes with triple-shot keycaps, allowing keyboard enthusiasts to customize the look of their keyboards to their liking. These keycaps are often used to create eye-catching and customized mechanical keyboard setups.

  1. Base Layer: The first shot creates the base layer of the keycap, which is typically a solid color. This is the main background color of the keycap.

  2. Second Layer: The second shot is used to create the legends or designs on the keycap. This is typically a different color from the base layer. The legends are what’s printed on the keycap to indicate the character or symbol associated with that key.

  3. Third Layer: The third shot is used to create a protective or transparent layer that covers the second shot. This layer not only adds durability but also creates a distinct look because it appears to be “floating” on top of the second layer. It can also be a different color from the first two layers.

Triple-shot keycaps are popular among mechanical keyboard enthusiasts because they offer a unique and visually appealing appearance. The multiple layers provide a 3D effect, and the legends are very durable since they’re embedded within the keycap, rather than being surface printed.

Keyboard Size/Layout

keyboard layout size

Mechanical Keyboards come in all shapes and sizes these days – it can get confusing trying to tell them apart! The most popular options are the Full-Size with 104 keys, the more compact TKL (TenKeyLess) with 87 keys, and the ultra-portable 60% keyboards with 68 keys.

It’s like the Goldilocks of keyboards – Full-Size is too big for some people, 60% is too small for others, and TKL is just right for folks in between. As the keyboard gets smaller, certain parts get chopped off. Say goodbye to the number pad and home cluster on a TKL. The 60% say see ya later to the function row, arrows, and number keys too. There are even more exotic sizes like 75%, 65%, and 40% keyboards for people who want to reclaim desk space. Itty bitty little things!

So in summary – a bigger keyboard, more keys, and functions. Smaller keyboard, more portability.

Why are Keycaps important?

When the topic is about mechanical keyboards, it’s obvious that keycaps will play a vital role in this plot. I hope it won’t surprise you that you can even find handmade keycaps for your mechanical keyboard. It is even possible to print a custom image on those keycaps. That may cost a little extra but it looks so cool, no more saying you can flex that to your friend.

When you’re spending 150$ for your dream mechanical keyboard it’s pretty normal to spend 50$ to make it more efficient!

Let’s face that,  you have your keycaps set to improve your gaming skills. In that case, you might need to focus on those keycaps which feel not only comfortable but also responsive. And making sure that you won’t need extra time to handle those brand-new keycaps.

In the real-life scenario, Cherry Profile is the most efficient for crafting the gaming experience. My recommendation is the Cherry;

Cherry swtiches

The reason that I vote for Cherry is because –

1. It’s popular

2. Readily available

3. Tactical switches that are good for most task

4.  Far good enough to do most of the office work

To be honest, keycaps won’t make you a pro player, well that’s a case of another story(A Guide to Becoming a Pro Player).

Another tip that I can give as your favorite guide, you may try the low-profile switches, which will decrease the distance and improve the response when entering a keystroke. Another thing this won’t help you in typing!

I appreciate your website, however I think you might check the spelling of a few of your postings. Even though I find it quite difficult to tell the truth because so many of them have spelling errors, I will most certainly return.
